Tea Thermal from Copco!

No matter how much time I give myself to get out of the door in the morning, it’s always a last minute dash out, which has often precluded me from enjoying my tea on-the-go. If only I could boil the water and steep it on the way without being concerned about dealing with wet leaves or over-steeped tea! So imagine my delight to find a product that would allow me to do so! The good folks at Copco have designed the Tea Thermal and I couldn’t be happier. Not to say that this product is perfect, but it’s the best I’ve found thus far.

Tea Cozies Keep the Party Going

“Never trust a man who, when left alone with a tea cosy, doesn’t try it on!” – Bill Connolly Nothing keeps a party going like a warm pot of tea. Conversely, nothing stops a party like a cold pot of tea. It was this realization that led to the invention and popularity of the tea cozy.

Sencha – The Other Green Tea

By Alexandra Hoover Green tea is one of the most ubiquitous teas on the market. Tasty, full of antioxidants, and recognizable to all tea drinkers, green tea is a favorite among many tea enthusiasts.  In fact, it is precisely for these reasons that green tea is often taken for granted.  As green tea is so familiar to us all, you may ask, “How much variety can green tea have?” Sencha green tea is a unique Japanese green tea produced without grinding leaves.  Sencha differs from Chinese green tea inasmuch as it is steamed for half a minute before the leaves are rolled and dried.  Although sencha means “roasted tea,” it is not pan-fried like Chinese green tea.  Instead, sencha is fired after the leaves have been dried. What is the difference between green tea leaves that have been initially fried, opposed to leaves that have been fired after they were dried?  One can definitely note this dissimilarity in the taste of sencha.  Sencha tastes a little like seaweed but with creamy overtones.  It is especially delicious with agave or cream, as it possesses a slight creamy, vegetal quality

Mint Tea

By Lainie Petersen What is Mint?: Mint is a flowering plant that grows in many areas of the world, its leaves are often prized for their sweet and cooling scent and flavor.  Mint leaves are often infused in boiling water to produce a flavorful drink known as a tisane, or are added to tea leaves to produce a flavored tea. Mint Tisane vs Mint Tea: People often use the term “mint tea” to describe two very different beverages. Many “ mint teas ” actually have no tea in them at all, but are instead an infusion of mint leaves

Holiday Tea Time — New Year’s Eve

By A.C. Cargill The last day of 2009 is approaching — time to throw an end-of-year tea time bash! While champagne bottle corks will be popping across the nation and the world, hubby and I will be enjoying the “champagne of teas”: Darjeeling . One deep inhalation of the steam rising from the teapot’s spout can transport you to the hills of the Darjeeling Province in India .

Cranberry Sauce Cookies

This week between Christmas and New Year’s is one of my favorite times of the year, mainly because it’s a quiet, no-pressure time at work and home when I have nothing I simply *must* get done. For that reason, I had time over the weekend to ponder whether it would be possible to use leftover cranberry sauce in a cookie and I discovered that indeed you can

Tea Tasting Saturdays #56, 57 & 58 – Puerhs

If I didn’t already have another 52-week tea project in mind, I would probably be a bit sad about writing today’s post! I simply cannot believe it has been a year since I began this tea-tasting project inspired by the 58 teas in “The Harney & Sons Guide to Tea” by Michael Harney. It was more enjoyable and enlightening than I had imagined, and I was pleasantly surprised I was able to find every tea or a reasonable substitute. What have I learned

Christmas at Holly Cottage Tearoom

On Saturday, my longtime tea friend Beth and I celebrated Christmas together by enjoying the “Holly Cottage High Tea,” a three-course event at our beloved Holly Cottage Tearoom in Newnan. Both of us have been to tea there quite a few times since it opened in September, but neither of us had ever taken time for the High Tea, or as my husband calls such occasions, “the Full Meal Deal.” I thought I’d share a few photos of foods we enjoyed along the way, including the famous knot rolls (served with sweet heart-shaped butter pats) made by Chef Linda Rivers. Beth loves their Monk’s Blend, and I am currently on a peppermint kick and ordered the peppermint herbal tea

The Weather Outside Is Frightful

By Stephanie Hanson Here in Northern Virginia, the snow is coming down like we haven’t seen in at least a decade, at least in my uneducated opinion. The snow is well over my knees, and well, we just aren’t used to that here. That might be the way things go up north, but here, we aren’t much north of the sweet-tea line.

Scripture Tea

Last night, several girlfriends and I went to Atlanta to see an advance screening of “The Young Victoria,” which I highly, highly recommend! Emily Blunt was great as the young queen who gave her name to an era, and those of us who love the royals anyway will be absolutely smitten with the lush cinematography, beautiful costumes, lovely sets (but hey, they were castles!), fine acting jobs …

Loving Tea by Jane Resnick

By Stephanie Hanson One of my favorite times of the week is my visit to the local public library. I feel rich at the vast choices of books, and being able to take as many as I like without worrying about cost (as long as I return them on time, I am notorious for the late fees I tend to rack up). I feel like I can learn anything or do anything

Cookie Baking Time!

Over the weekend I baked several batches of cookies to add to some already in the freezer, and today I plan to deliver baked goodies to a few friends. My new favorite Christmas cookies, above, are these White Chocolate Candy Cane Drops (recipe from the truly wonderful BH&G magazine “100 Best Cookies.”) These have chopped pieces of peppermint candy mixed right in the batter, along with both melted white chocolate and chunks of white chocolate.

Tea Tasting Saturdays #54 & 55 -British Black Tea Blends

Since this is the last Saturday before Christmas, and the next-to-last Saturday in my year of tea tastings, I thought it would be appropriate to sip out of a Santa mug this week! Category: British Black Tea Blends Purveyor: Harney and Sons Dry leaf appearance : Smallish pieces of broken tea leaf, with the Earl Grey a bit darker in appearance than the English Breakfast.
